Events Programme for 2014
The regular club venue is subject to change, but is currently the Cambridge Golf and Conference Centre. Please see individual events for details.
For help, see the key.
Start 2014 in style with a fabulous selection of classic and vintage cars, good company and perhaps a drink to stave off the chill. Meet on the green opposite The Royal Oak in Barrington and don't forget your hat and scarf!
Club Night - Grope
Join us for our famous 'grope'! Mystery household items have been sealed in black plastic bags and you have to guess what's what by touch alone. Prize for the winner.
Club Night - Guest Speaker
We've got Danny Hopkins, Editor of Practical Classics magazine, coming along to talk classic cars. I'm sure he's got plenty of stories to tell! All welcome.
Annual General Meeting
We will hear reports on the previous year and elect our new committee. Please submit nominations for our 2014/2015 committee to any current committee member. Light refreshments will be served.
FBHVC Drive It Day
We are organising a road run from Trumpington Waitrose, up to the Nene Valley Railway at Wandsford, via the old A428, Fenstanton, Abbots Ripton and the old A1. There will be additional stops en-route at Morrisons in Cambourne and Waitrose in St Ives so you can join the run at either of those if you prefer. Map packs will be available for a small charge to cover printing costs. Numbers in advance please to David Hunns to help Nene Valley Railway prepare for our arrival. We leave Trumpington at 9:30am, Cambourne at 10:15am and St Ives at 11:00am.
Duxford Spring Show
See http://www.iwm.org.uk/events/iwm-duxford/spring-car-show-0. We have a pitched booked so club members can just turn up and pay on the gate. £10 pp, includes access to museum. Please let Steve or David know if you are coming so we can plan our pitch.
Club Treasure Hunt
Please give your name to David Hunns or Steve Sims if you wish to attend. The event will start at the Cambridge Golf and Conference Centre, where we hold our regular club nights. Please arrive at 10:00 for a staggered start at around 10:30, the Clubhouse will be open for refreshments and use of the facilities if required. This year's hunt will be a search for picture clues and will follow quiet rural roads between scenic Cambridgeshire villages. All the objects pictured will be visible from the comfort of your car; all you need to do is plot their location on a map which we will give you. The team / entrant with the most objects correctly plotted, wins (judges' decision is final, etc etc!)! The event will finish 2 hours later at the Queen's Head Pub in Needingworth, where an extensive menu will be available, including at least 2 roasts, a vegetarian option and the usual choice of bar snacks - most dishes are under £10.
We do hope you can join us for a fun, friendly and informal morning of motoring, followed by a noggin and natter!
Club Night - Pub Run
Meet at Club HQ at 7.00 for 7.30 start. We will be heading off to the Plough at Fen Ditton. If the weather is nice we can sit by the river. The route should take us through the Backs in Cambridge where Jonathan will ask you to slow down as you pass Kings chapel and he'll take a photo of you and your car.
Club Night - Come Ride With Me
Go for a passenger ride around the local countryside in another club member's car.
Club Run to Tiger Racing, Wisbech
We have an exciting visit planned to a local car specialist in Wisbech and you are invited to join us to find out more about Tiger Racing. This family run business was formed in 1989 and manufactures seven kinds of road and race car. They have extensive facilities which include two engineering shops, sales/show area, paint department, MOT garage, trimming shop, and an impressive parts department. We will be given a brief talk by the owner and then given a tour of the premises. They have kindly offered to supply tea and biscuits afterwards.
After the tour we have reserved some tables at the Dog and Doublet Pub near Whittlesey, where we will be sitting down for lunch between 1-1.30pm. I am hoping to get a menu so we can pre-order.
Meet at Chatteris Co-op car park from 9.30am, to start at 10.00. The route takes us through March and Friday Bridge before getting to Wisbech for 11 am so if you are interesting in joining us then please sign up or contact David or Andy.
